REP. ROBERTS APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF HOUSE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE |

State Representative Jay Roberts (R) of Ocilla has been named as the new Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. The jurisdiction of the Transportation Committee includes legislation relating to highway safety, regulation of intrastate common carriers, and any other means of transportation. The Chairman of the Transportation Committee determines which bills and in what order the Bills are considered within the Committee. In addition, the Chairman and Committee also refer Bills and Resolutions to study Committees. This Chairmanship was vacated by State Rep. Vance Smith as he was elected as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
As Chairman of the House Republican Caucus, Rep. Roberts has shown that he is a proven leader,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “I am confident he will bring the same skills to the House Transportation Committee as we continue to work towards a solution and solve one of the most important issues facing our state today.”
Transportation has been and will continue to be a top priority in Georgia. As Chairman, Rep. Roberts will focus on the transportation interests all over the state. Rep. Roberts stated, “Transportation is a state-wide issue that needs to be addressed as it affects all regions of the state. Solutions are needed to address the transportation needs in Georgia. I am honored to be chosen and look forward to working with everyone to improve our state’s transportation system.”
Rep. Roberts represents Irwin and Telfair counties, in addition to portions of Ben Hill, Jeff Davis, Tift, and Wheeler Counties in the Georgia General Assembly. |
